Upgrade of Basement pumped foul drainage dual pumpstation

Southern Pump Services were asked to design and install a suitable pumpstation solution to cope with sewage and foul water from approximately half a 4-storey council office block (approx 700-1200 people). The front half of the building was served via a conventional gravity system. The rear half and basement facilities had no option but a packaged pumped system.

The existing system was a drastically undersized with an Polytank twin pump unit located in the corner of the existing lower car park area. The station had suffered numerous failures due to the frequency of stop / starts.

Quality and reliability of the new station was parament in this instance. Southern Pump Services offered the following Dry Well Pumping Station. Equipment had to be man handled from lower car park ramp approximately 30 metres to other area of car park.

The existing station had to be kept running whilst new station works were carried out. Final changeover was carried out at a weekend while building was unoccupied.

EQUIPMENT SUPPLIED & INSTALLED
2 no ABS XFP80 cast iron Pumpsets ATEX Rated 1.3kW 400v horizontal mounted.

1no 3000-litre nominal GRP tank. Tank height was 1.65m due to height restriction (2m) at car park entrance.

DN80/100 PN16 ductile iron pipework, ball type non-return valves, gate isolation valves (suction and discharge side of pumps).

IP56 mild steel control panel operating with 4-float system including High-level alarm system.

Re-route existing DN100 cast `Timesaver‘ inlet and discharge pipework to new unit.

Supply and install new 3“ galvanised ventilation pipe work from new storage tank to atmosphere (approx 18-metres).

Run up & commission system. Remove existing redundant station.
