Consultant in Hampshire approached us for a packaged pump station to serve a new F&B’s restaurant and retail outlet at the Fort Shopping Centre, Birmingham.

Located in a far corner of the site, the foul sewer was approximately 150m away, so gravity drainage was impossible. Directly beneath the new restaurant was an underground car park so a below ground pump station adjacent to F&B’s was also out of the question.
The easiest and practical solution would be to position the foul pump station in the underground car park directly below.

An SPSE surface mounted station was the solution with dry well ATEX rated pumps mounted to one side of the GRP foul tank. To allow for 24-hour storage and future expansion, a 6000-litre insulated tank standing 2m high was supplied and installed on site.

SPSE engineers attended site and installed / commissioned the remainder of the packaged including:

• ABS (XFP range) DN80 ATEX rated dry well pumps 2.2kW capable of 75mm solids handling and 6-8 l/s,
• DN80 ductile iron pipework kit, cast iron valves etc connecting onto clients 90mm MDPE discharge pipework.
• SPSE twin pump control panel and sewage rated level controls, each with support weight.

Once the package had been completed, the main contractor constructed a plantroom around the station for security reasons. This meant a standard SPSE twin pump control panel to IP55 rating could be used in lieu of explosion proof type.

With the high risk of fat and grease production / build-up, from the restaurant, grease traps and dosing would be required upstream of the dry well pumping station along with regular maintenance program.

The equipment was supplied within 3-4 weeks, installed in 2 working days and commissioned in May 2011.
